Subject: XML Color Scheme
From: Shaun McCance
So what's the deal with the color of the XML books?
Also, in response to a
previous email you
posted a Route Map of
the O'Reilly books. Do you have an updated version of that? I found it very
useful, as well as fun to look at. I should explain that I'm a bit of an
O'Reilly collector. For instance, I bought two copies of some of the
Java books just to have them in both
the old object style and in the new animal style.
Hi Shaun,
When we first started doing XML books, it seemed like we should give them a
new series color--that bright leaf green you noticed. But, as we got into it,
a decision was made in Editorial and Marketing to make the
XML books the same color as the
Web books, because XML is such a critical
technology for the Web. So, the XML books will continue to be the same color
as the Web books, at least until Editorial and Marketing change their minds
again!
As for the Route Map, we haven't updated it this year. We've got so many
titles in print that I don't think I could fit them all on there. It was
pretty tough the last time I updated it.
Thanks for writing to us.
