Subject: Open Books: Try Before You Buy
From: Kurt Amesbury
I've been using the online version of Embedding Perl in HTML with Mason and just wanted to tell
you folks Thank You! for putting the book online.
While most publishers probably resist this approach to getting
information out, I find it a refreshing means to determine whether a
book is right for a given purpose. And because the online book is
complete, I don't need to have the print version in hand to get
started on Mason. That means I can afford to skip the expensive
shipping (which would have added 20 percent to the cost of the book) and wait
the 10-15 days it will take for the book to arrive. Consequently, I
decided to apply the savings to the purchase of a second book: Mac OS X in a Nutshell.
A complete list of O'Reilly's Open Books is available at www.oreilly.com/openbook.
The interesting aspect of this is that I probably wouldn't have ordered
the Mason Book (or the OS X Nutshell book) if not for your "try
before you buy" approach. This latest order will bring the number of O'Reilly
books on my bookshelf to 14.
Well, I have to get back to learning about Mason. . . .
Keep up the good work.
